"If the right of privacy means anything, it is the right of the individual, married or single, to be free from unwarranted governmental intrusion into matters so fundamentally affecting a person as the decision whether to bear or beget a child." Justice William J. Brennan in Eisenstadt v. Baird (1972).

March 22, 2012 was the 40th anniversary of Eisenstadt v. Baird, Bill Baird's 1972 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized birth control for all Americans.  Eisenstadt v. Baird is a landmark case that became the bedrock of several privacy cases including Roe v. Wade (legalized abortion) and Lawrence v. Texas (gay rights victory).

Bill Baird - Life Magazine 1970

"Saving girls from 'hacks and butchers' at the Parent's Aid Society in Hempstead, New York, Bill Baird [top] uses a surgical curette and a plastic model of a uterus to show the abortion procedure to a pregnant woman, one of 10,000 he has counseled since 1965." (February 27, 1970)

Bill Baird is a tireless advocate for reproductive freedom rights. The picture below shows Bill Baird at a 2005 demonstration in New York with other reproductive freedom fighters, including Joni Baird, Sandy Rapp, Marlyn Fitterman, and Marcia Pappas.

Bill Baird believes it is important to shine the light of public scrutiny on anti-choice groups. The picture below shows Bill Baird picketing the National Right to Life Convention in Washington, D.C., in June, 2012. Not even 103-degree weather can slow down Baird at the age of 80.
